NymVPN is built by Nym Technologies (Neuchatel, Switzerland) on the Nym decentralized mixnet. It offers two modes in one client: a 5-hop mixnet mode that adds cover traffic and packet reordering to defeat traffic analysis, and a faster 2-hop mode over AmneziaWG (a censorship-resistant WireGuard fork) for lower-latency browsing. Neither mode lets a single node see both endpoints.

NymVPN is the right tool when the threat model extends to metadata and traffic-analysis attacks, not just IP masking. The 5-hop mixnet mode is meaningfully more protective than a conventional VPN or even Tor for timing-correlation resistance, and the open-source client has been audited by Cure53 and others. The honest catch is speed: mixnet mode trades latency for anonymity, and the decentralized node network is younger and smaller than established VPN fleets. Best suited for high-sensitivity use cases where a slower connection is an acceptable cost.
