Our take
StartMail is a solid, no-drama paid mailbox from the Startpage people, and the unlimited aliases plus custom-domain support make it a real Gmail replacement rather than a toy. The catch is the price: there is no free tier, so you pay to leave the free-but-mined inbox behind. Pick it if you want a Dutch-hosted account that works with Thunderbird and you have already accepted that private email costs money.
