MetaGer
metager.org
Our take
The standout here is the model: MetaGer is a German nonprofit, open-source, and metasearches multiple engines rather than depending on one, which is about as mission-aligned as private search gets. The honest trade is that metasearch can feel slower and the results less tuned than a single polished index. Some features have historically sat behind a membership too. Pick it when you want a values-driven, transparent search backed by a nonprofit and don’t mind a less slick experience than the big commercial options.
