Our take
Kontact is the KDE counterpart to GNOME Evolution: a fully integrated Linux PIM where each component (KMail, KOrganizer, KAddressBook) can also be run standalone, which gives it more flexibility than it might look like on first glance. OpenPGP and S/MIME are built in, CalDAV/CardDAV sync works out of the box, and the Akonadi backend handles large mail accounts without blocking the UI. The honest catch is that Akonadi is a heavyweight dependency that can be tricky to configure and occasionally needs a manual database reset. Best for KDE Plasma users who want a privacy-respecting Outlook replacement rather than a minimalist client.
